Have you ever drunk an Asiatico coffee after dinner whilst on holiday in La Manga Club? If you haven’t you really should try it!!!
But if you have did you know that one of the ingredients is made in Cartagena? Yep, Licor 43 is a locally produced liquor, established in the 1940’s by the Zamora family. The recipe was inspired by “Liqvor Mirabilis” or “marvelous liquid” – a golden, aromatic elixir produced and infused from local fruits and herbs that was banned by the Romans when they conquered Cartagena.
You will see the golden bottles in most bars in the area and it has many more uses then just in coffee – try it cold over ice or mix it with ginger ale, lime juice and ice for a refreshing cocktail.
The factory can be seen on the AP7 from La Manga to Cartagena – you really can’t miss it, bright yellow, orange and green stripes, it is open to visitors and I would recommend a visit. The tour takes approximately 1.5 hours and you will learn the history, some of the secret ingredients and see how it is produced, packaged and distributed. Oh, and let’s not forget the tastings!!!! All for 14 euro per person.
